Help!!! Adopting A dog!!!?

Okay so I adopted a dog from an animal shelter and had it neutered. After three days of having Dino we found out he had parvovirus and they asked $1250 from us and we could not afford it so we returned him. We returned him last week and someone told us not to adopt a puppy, but could we have a puppy vaccinated to avoid getting the virus. Please help X(
