What other kinds of fish could live with my african cichlids?

So a few days ago I got rid of all my previous fish & stocked my tank with 8 medium size (about 1.5 inch) african cichlids......(the ones you see at the fish store all overstocked in one tank). I've seen some really cool looking african cichlids for sale on various websites so I actually have two questions #1.) Can I mix a bunch of different cichlids together as long as they are all african? and #2.) Is there any other fish known to live in a tank with them besides other cichlids?
