Why evolution can happen?

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. The problem is that the environments in which species live are constantly changing. Some areas that were once tropical are now temperate or even frigid. If organisms don't change over time to keep well adapted to an ever-changing environment, eventually they will be "broke" in terms of survival.
